From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

He’s just letting them comfortable with their surroundings before he pounces. Much like leaving feed out for boars/deer.

This may be a response to recent news coverage of a Univ. of Ga. report claiming that cats “murder” 500 million birds a year in the U.S. Somebody in Georgia doesn’t like cats.

What with yesterday’s strip featuring President Lincoln, and his birthday being on Tuesday, I suspected that Johnson would have a theme going for this week. But I didn’t think that cats would be the subject.

@Varnes: Good to see they found the salmon-colored sofa.

That would be the P.E.T.A point of view not the D.A.R.W.I.N point of view.

The neighborhood “outside” cat got his butt kicked by 3 squirrels at my feeder. The birds gladly share with squirrels here.

We have that feeder. That branch could NEVER hold it up.

Thanks – I wouldn’’t have thought of that.

@Gokie5
I seriously doubt there has EVER been a cat who has consciously ‘murdered’ anybody/anything! Cats ‘kill’ because it is in their nature to do so, we on the other hand do it because we enjoy it.

Time to “Bell” Luddie.
