From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

Here is a LONG history of the quote for anyone else who has mis-attributed this quote many times in the past like I have: http://quoteinvestigator.com/2012/05/06/other-plans/

And Mary Worth still infests the comics pages. The Harrisburg (PA) Patriot-News still carries it to this day.
Unfortunately for readers, the P-N just changed over to a thrice-weekly publication, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The P-N now charges $2.00 at the newsstands and $2.50 for home delivery of their Sunday edition. Once upon a time, subscribers got a discount for home delivery.

When our paper imploded to three day delivery and very poor coverage, they raised the price. Not sound business practices I would think.

Is it just my browser, or has the typeface changed? (Yes I know, it’s not my browser.)

I subscribe to my hometown paper online because it is cheaper than home delivery or buying one from a machine and I don’t have all that paper stacking up.

Or interesting. Those strips were on the do not read list after the second look.

You might enjoy the blog “Mary Worth and Me”.

Mary Worth, I remember that strip. It was about a stately elderly lady who only wanted to mind her own business. But instead she was inundated with the constant problems of beautiful but important young people clamoring around her who needed her wisdom. As her name implied, she was very worthy.
