From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

Even though he’s convinced himself he can bask in a charcoal fueled glow,
I think Arlo’s arms are more likely to look a bit blue than that healthy pink….
and I don’t think even Varnes loves snow enough to be standing in it sipping an icy piña colada….
It’s cold out there!

BTW…. @ hippogrif from yesterday…
well, for what it’s worth, I thought it was funny.
We really need an HTML tag for facetiousness,
something that would make the font all… I dunno…
off kilter and curly?… when it’s tongue in cheek.
I know cos I get in trouble a lot too.
Dr. Toon… I totally read it as, like, Hippogriff laughed at your facetious use of “pride” and upped the ante.
On his turn he raised you a few over-the-top terms…
but everybody folded.
LOL

Arlo, come to the Phillipines and enjoy your fantasy all year long (okay, except when it rains). Oh, bring Janis, too, I think she’d like it here.

I used to do this too! Even grilling in a blizzard once! Nothing beats hot burgers off the grill!

That’s a very Red Green strip.

At least I’ve finally convinced my “Arlo” not to cook out in thunderstorms any more. I’ll gladly give him snow and plain old rain for that concession.

That’s my boy!……Susan, you’re right I wouldn’t…I’d be drinking a frosty CC and soda, tall…And no amount of snow is too much….The cold? I’m only good down to -10º, then I go inside……Cuz it’s hot toddy time!
Thomas, now that you mention it, That is what Red Green would do…Perfectly normal

Susan, I agree with you about Hippogriff from yesterday…I’m pretty sure “A Kindle of Kittens” isn’t right…

I know it is an aloofness of cats.

@Varnes
A collective group of kittens is termed either a ‘kindle’ or a ‘litter’. I myself prefer ‘a parliament of owls’.

My late hubby and I used to do this – he even did shorts and all. There would be a strange looking hole in the wintry scenery when we were done. Then we scurried inside to eat so the food wouldn’t freeze ;-)
