This is an excellent example of disparity between men and women, especially with regards to DV. Men are physical, they very seldom act in a verbal manner. But a physical reaction to this situation would make Arlo the aggressor while Janis’, possibly accidental, verbal abuse would be ignored. The typical response would be ’ She only said… ’ or ’it’s just words… remember sticks and stones…’. However mental and psychological abuse is just as bad a physical abuse, but is seldom confronted in our so called justice system.
