    what happens when a ghost is slain? he feels pain? does another ghost appear? seems like life, er death, is very unfair for this particular group of ghosts.

    They aren’t “slain” they are going through the recapitulation of the battle as it was fought. Such ghosts don’t show autonomy but rather like robots with a preprogrammed routine.

    In World of Warcraft, a ghost slain turns into a little black orb from which the slayer receives “loot”. Of course a few minutes later, the orb disappears and the ghost is back for the next player to slay.
