I remember this strip and questioning why Warbucks leaves his dying friend with no real answer to his question.

I don’t know either. In panel 1 he looks like 2 years past dead. In P2 I’d guess about 97.

They both know he is dying so it would be a silly insult not to acknowledge it. Warbucks may believe in some kind of post corporeal after death, maybe not.
