We have always been One Nation Under God. It’s the vision that Jefferson & Franklin et.al. had for us. The small minority who don’t believe that and don’t care are what’s divisive.

I’m about as left-wing as you can get without being Trotsky. I’m also a veteran. My flag is up constantly in my classroom. And I have no idea why on earth flying one’s flag on any day would make somebody mad.

Amen to this. Too many people have forgotten and are living in a pre-9/11 mentality. We must unite together against those who seek to destroy us so that tragedies like this will not happen again. Above all, my prayer is that we will be One Nation Under God! Without God, the nation may one day fall.

Under God was NOT even inserted into the Pledge of Alliegance to the Flag of the United States of America until the 1950s.

The whole world has been under God since the beginning of creation. But, the USA has NEVER been a Christian nation. Unlike what some people think, neither God nor Jesus are mentioned in the Constitution of the United States of America.

The World Trade Center had more than just Americans working in its two towers. There were lots of foreign companies with offices in them and lots of non-Americans working for them.

From one point of view, it is possible that the attacks were not exactly on the USA but on the pseudo religion of Capitalism, in the minds of the terrorists. Since the CIA had offices in the Pentagon and the CIA had been used by American corporations to get to do business in foreign countries not friendly with the USA, I see the plane that flew into the side of the Pentagon was an attack on the CIA and not actually the US Military.

If I had never watched TV on September 11, 2001, I would not have even been indirectly affected by what happened that day.

But, I watched the 2nd hijacked plane fly into the World Trade Center’s 2nd Tower when it was shown live on local TV. At that time, I had a live-in In-Home Health Care Provider staying with me. The next morning, Danny told me that during the night after midnight, he heard me making loud noise which woke him up and he came to my door to see what was the matter. He told me that while the nightmare I was having was triggered by what I had seen on TV, I sounded like I was in a war zone telling people what to do.

Well, how he described what he thought he heard sounded like what happened on the night of January 31, 1968 when I was in the US Army at Chu Lai, S. Vietnam. The 1968 Tet Holiday Truce began on that day; but, the Vietcong ignored the truce and attacked lots of places that night. While no one in our company area was even injured that night, 4 of the living quarters in my company at Americal Headquarters were burned to the ground due to a rocket attack. My friend, Jim, lost everything he had except for what he was wearing that night.

Jim was like me and was a short-timer, too since we had less than 2 weeks left. I returned to the USA on Feb 13, 1968. If the rocket that had landed on the North side of the building north of mine had not been a dud, my quarters would probably have been burned down, too.

Some people talk and write as there has only been one 9-11; but, there is a 9-11 on every calendar each year. Today is a 9-11. But, it is 9-11-2009.

Eight years have come and gone since that 9-11.
In that time we have entered into two wars.
Also my Pastor’s son was killed in Iraq.
    9-11-2001 reaches far beyond 9-11-2001.

Joe, usually I’m right with you. Not sure where you’re coming from with this one. Everyone, the world over, was affected by the events of 9/11. It doesnt matter one bit how close they were to a TV. Even the kids born on that day were affected. It changed all our lives. I think I understand that you already knew what this kind of loss was like, due to your time in Viet-Nam. But 9/11 just means we caught up to you. And since you share the world with us, you’ve been affected. You’re no longer living in a world with people who have no idea what an experiance like that is like. It makes a difference.

I discussed this today with my students in class. There is only one 9/11. Today’s date may be the 11th of Septemeberm but it’s not 9/11. We’ll always know what day they mean when people speak of 9/11. And it won’t mean today.

My thanks for todays comic. And thank you to all who are serving or who have served to keep our Nation safe.

..since this is two days later and no one will probably read this or re-comment on it,1st off ,very nice tribute. On 9/11,I wish I would have started here on Ucomics instead of comics.com.I read over a third of their comics with no 9/11 references before I gave up.
Next, about the comment,’One nation under God’.Amen,brother.But,please do not forget the 1st part that includes …’And to the republic for which it stands’.I love my government. It is the best in the world, and when you forget that part…any part of ‘THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE’ -you are just being a tool of big business and their paid cronies.

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE is to our country! I stopped watchng programs on Fox news when I realized that their allegiance was to their advertizers $$$ not to America. It was funny, but in the long run they always stood for the people who put ads on their shows.

Not all of these international companies love America like Daddy Warbucks…
