Burning the plane is a dumb idea. It’s the only shelter he has and its the only protection he has from the cold and predators. If you start a fire you gotta put it out - think California.

If STARTREK was real he could transport out. Oh Well. Happy Birthday anyway. Sept. 8th 1966. Happy 43rd STARTREK!

ive been thinking about the burning the plane thing since someone mentioned wildfires and gas explosions. They are right, You dont want to light the whole plane, engines and all for they have gas. Use the battery connections and some gas soaked rags to light a spark and fire. The plane is good shelter. you can make blankets out of the seats and such.
Before the fire you should hve a giant teepee made of flamable brush, surrounded by some planes metal or rocks to keep fire from spreading too much. then you make a small campfire that you keep lit. Wehn you hear a plane, take a burning stick from your small fire and chuck it on the teepee, Due to a lack of fresh leaves that make good smoke, use plastic on the fire, this should make it more noticeable.
A seach plane isnt going to land to pick you up. they will send a helicoptor. HOpefully the nice pilot has a fire extingusher to put out the fire for you, if fact the crashed planes cockpit should have one.
Wild fires are started by idiots with cigarette butts tossed carelessly. IF you know how to contain a fire, it shouldnt spread.
