I’ve been enjoying the early strips as reprinted by IDW. It’s great to see this continuity strip still alive and well.

Years ago I read a book of the first 20 years of Little Orphan Annie. What marvelous story-telling!
My thanks to Maeder and Slampyak for continuing the tradition so well. I look forward to Annie’s centennial.

I understand that Harold Grey at first wanted to call the strip “Orphan Otto” and have it be about an orphan boy. His editor looked at the drawings, thought the kid looked like a sissy, and told Grey to put a dress on him and call him “Annie”.

The strip might be 85 years old, but It can’t be her birthday. She was born on February 29th. She’s only 21. Hope she doesn’t start drinking.

And “Annie” is one of the best older serial comic strips still out there…maybe the best.
Don’t change Annie.

Happy Birthday, Annie! Looks like it has taken you 85 years to age 8 and a half years!
Happy Birthday, Sandy! Long may you arf! Of course, in another 85 years, or even long before then, they’ll have the technology to let dogs speak fluent English (and other Human languages), as seen in the film UP.

This is not the Birthday of the Annie nor Sandy; it is the anniversary date of when the comic strip first appeared in print. The word “birthday” is not even in today’s installment.
What was the year, month and day of Annie’s birth?
Everyone has exactly ONE birthday and that was the day one was born. I have had 66 Birthday Anniversaries.

Way to GO!!!!!!! Happy 85th, you don’t look a day over 10.
I gotta admit I like the older style more than the current, but it is a close race.
