It’s not being a victim of the male gaze. It’s being a victim to the social perception that women are the supposed embodiment of sex and beauty. Women feel this pressure regardless of whether there’s actually a male around and regardless of whether they’re even straight.

Actually, you’re both wrong. 1. In pretty much all animal species where the males and females differ in appearance, it’s the male who is decorated and ‘pretty’ and the female is dull (think of peacocks and lions). 2. This perception that ‘males prance around and females choose’ is BS. It’s from a male’s point of view who completely ignores the women who aren’t beautiful and perfect and only focuses on the women he desires. Then he cries that those particular women don’t want him, while completely ignoring the women he isn’t personally attracted to. Sort of this “well, I don’t have to try to be attractive, but why are the most attractive women not interested in me? It’s so unfair!”

As for money and power, why can’t women have money and power? Why would a woman want to be some man’s pet like an accessory on his sleeve, so she can constantly feel he is better than she is?
