Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 21 “Dead To Rites” (193) 8/29/2014 Friday

    On the Wanderer
Alley, Ooola with Doc Wonmug and Dr. Tucker are exploring the idea of sniffing out the terrorist gang using Alley’s tremendous smelling ability. (He did get several whiffs, but even he isn’t sure it was enough.) Just then their kindly, big, Nigerian physician Dr.N’bo Ubutu has something he wants to give them.
“I heard you all talking about smelling the enemy. Well I did take some samples from the forensic lab for us when I and the coroner’s office looked over the two bodies. I did find some things not burned, and not cleaned. So Alley care to take a sniff?” He had a metal cylinder in his hand with a screw top about 1 foot long and 3 inches wide held in a large hand and cradled in his bulky arm.
It was very quiet in the land train, only the hum and buzz of equipment as everyone looked first at the good doctor, then to Alley.
“Well?” Dr. Ubutu breaks the near silence with his basso voice.

Ooola is flashing back to when she became Munda Wunch (that is the pic of what she looked like back in the early 30’s). That was the stage name they gave her. Now, the producer in the 1980’s, you recall, sent Oop back to find out whatever had happened to Munda Wunch. Here’s where the time travel thing comes in.

In that arc, Ooola was getting kidnapped by goons hired by a rival studio to kidnap her. That studio had Oop playing in a movie and they wanted Munda(Ooola) out of the way so their movie starring Oop would get all the attention. Oop saw it happening and chased the goon’s car. It crashed after Oop threw a hammer and hit the driver in the head. A fight ensued, the police came and took away the goons. Meanwhile, Doc was watching all this in his studio and brought them back to the 1980’s. Oop and Ooola just disappeared into thin air while the cops and all were watching.

So, that solved the mystery of why Munda Wunch had disappeared without a trace back in the 30’s. The Hollywood producer had his answer. He then asked Ooola to star in movie he was making “The Munda Wunch Story”.

So Ooola had actually acted twice before this. BTW, that arc went from 9/18/80 to about 1/5/81. Lots of story action and 3 or 4 panels a day, 6 days a week. That same story nowdays would have taken 6 or 8 months to tell, with a lot less detail in the art work.

    Morning, Oopsters.

Good synopsis, Wootitoot. What’s really funny is that it took Carole this long to mention it. I think she was reminded of Ooola’s previous acting career by none other than the commenters here, and had to scramble to put it in her story.

I’ve forgotten how this arc began. Didn’t Oop and Ooola just want to see a movie, but ended up on this lot in the wrong time period? But the various time eras are all jumbled in my head (as well as most everything else).

A gocomics certified big brother greeter, a pedantic script really written for early onset dementia, I am beginning to think the benders own majority shares in a Hollywood mortuary.

On the waning days of a glorious but cool summer,
greetings to the Benders, John Wooley, and the readers
of Alley Oop. Nice to see Ooola reminiscing of a earlier
younger self acting during a time adventure. Studio
Head Keltner just wants a lookalike body to finish this
cash pit of a movie. Director Karstein is already thinking
beyond this picture, possibly as his discovery, if Ooola
can be more than easy on the eyes, and can act, being
    more than a extra.

Beware trying to hunt the Snark for it is a boojum and any who hunt for it never return.

Snark – a shark-snail hybrid created in 2032. Before it meant a sarcastic comment. Before that it was a mysterious creature that any who hunt it will be in turn hunted by the snark, and never return. 1870.

A land or sea creature with a wicked bite, its own shell, and slippery skin. I don’t see it moving fast though. wish I could show you my drawing I did of it years ago.

Thanks for snarking; not a great fan of Carrol but enjoyed the info. Did a search and a small amount of reading. I always have wondered, and still do, how that word came to be connected to a way of commenting ?
