I wonder if this story wraps up on Halloween? And give Oop the credit for the story of “Frankenstein”?

Does the prof have a “flashy thing,” ala Men in Black, to give Mary amnesia about the encounter? Otherwise, rule one of traveling to the past has been broken. She’s seen the electronic device, she knows inventive people, etc.

Good Morning Benders, John Wooley, and readers of Alley Oop. So after scaring Mary Godwin with a inexplicable
demonic device (to her) , Doc tries to go with the ‘I am
sorry’ defense. It doesn’t work;. It didn’t work for a women I knew, years ago, who would say ‘Mea Culpa’ (Latin for I’m
to blame) whenever she was caught in a screwup. Once
again this is why Doc should not time travel, except to visit
people in Moo who know him.

doc is coming across as a blithering idiot in this arc

why would the hyper-emotional mary automatically assume that doc’s gadget “can’t be used for good”? i don’t get that: she’s a strong, intelligent woman, a writer – i would think she’d be more curious than frightened.

carole is not serving her characters and characterizations very well at all.

Mary seeing an electromagnetic device, May still be an inspiration… If Doc does not explain the operation of the device. Mary already knows about Electrical impulses. Remember the Gus were discussing Reanimating life via electricity, citing the work of galvani and others.
I see no rul broken as yet, but it is possible to break and violate the Prime Directive anytime a person travels to the past. Look what Dave Wowee has done for Doc’s lab.

“Whatever that thing is it can’t be used for good”? Judgemental much? Since it is a device you have never seen before how can you be sure that it can’t be used “for good?” And besides, it is not the tool that is good or evil, it is the tool user. A musket can provide an innocent family with food, or it can kill the same innocent family, all based on the intent of the person who uses it. The gun itself is neither good nor evil.

Notice I said it was posssible to Break the Prime Directive through time travel. And from my experience with Mr Hamlin and Mr graue, Had Oop not traveled into our recent past, then history as we know it would not have occurred. This isn;’t the same as Sam Beckett altering history for the good of the person he was leaping into. But then The Quantum Leap Universe is parallell to the Aley Oop Universe.
Hmmm.. Thats brings to mind the concept of non parallel universes.. They will meet sometimewhere

Mary was all of 19 when this story started. More mature than a 19 year-old today but still rather young. But Carole’s dialogue for her has been plain dumb.

Everyone is assuming that we are watching an explanation develop as to how the book “Frankenstein” came to be written. I think, however, we are being treated to a “prequel” for “Little Red Riding Hood”. ;-)
