    Good Morning, Oopsters.

    Alley should have listened to Doc.

    Yes, indeed.

    Morning, Oopsters.
    As Mary climbs the slope, her foot will slip on the ice and she’ll fall. This will casue a delay in Doc’s plans as Oop will go down and rescue her.

    Good Morning Benders, John Wooley and readers of Alley Oop. Who didn’t see this coming? On Aug 12 Alley said I’m
    tough! I can handle a little cold. I guess it’s more than little cold and Alley is suffering his short term memory loss
    regarding his statement.. Fortunately Doc brought it along in his magic backpack.

    2 panels and a wasted day for Oop to say brr, I’m cold and for Doc to say here put on a coat.

    Wind chill owww. Doesn’t have to be freezing if you get wet. I take back my faith in the poncho. This is a job for a slicker and one of those broad brimmed oriental rice paddy hats.
    .
    Doc’s hood doesn’t look waterproof to me. He’s gonna be in trouble.

    My plan would be to present the story at a pace that was interesting and entertaining.

    @Crispy Bacon

    now now CB it took just 2 panels to do what others take 10 -20 to do:
    1. Set up complications are coming
    2. Result of Oop relying on his self instead of respecting the Doc’s warning.
    3. Follow thru of Doc’s reaction to Oop’s casual attitude.
    4. Set up of Doc not respecting Oop’s trespasser warning.
    5. A touch of recap so those not getting the Sunday paper can follow the story.
    .
    Putting the action forward in the 1st panel instead of last is unusual
    .
    The characters are interacting, the irony cycle is set. Mom nature is taking aim with a couple of well placed lightning bolts…

    @bopard

    Carole has been setting this up for about 6 weeks now and in that time, probably has used around 60 panels of actual story progression – by her standards.

    1/2 to 2/3 of the progression we should have seen by now. Just adding a third panel to most days would improve the story and add to the daily entertainment value.

    Some of the stories she writes could actually be interesting if she wouldn’t drag them out so agonizingly slow.

    To quote cartoonist Frank Stack, AKA Foolbert Sturgeon: “… when dialogue was called for, Hamlin proved to have a wonderful touch with comedy and drama. His stories moved swiftly. More happened in one episode that would occur in a week of modern continuity.” I guess with Carole, we can say more than in a week of her continuity.

    V.T. Hamlin quote: “I couldn’t do serious stuff all the time because I’m not serious all the time. I never was what you might call a ‘humorist’. Of course, some people call me one because I drew a comic strip, but basically I wasn’t. I was drawing something that was interesting- interesting to a lot of people.”
    When’s the last time you could say that about this strip? The Benders need to go and they might as well take John Wooley with them.
