Why is Guz shown as one of Oop’s friends in the title panel?

Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 19 “The Savage Land of Promise”(9) 5/16/2013 Sunday

    Panel One

For the colonists it was a jolt to be in another place. Its strange green sky, three suns, the largest like ours only with a greenish tint orbited by a smaller brilliant carmine colored companion with a very small dwarf star of a bizarre indigo color between them. Leaving the most interesting and colorful days and nights.

    Panel Two

It is hot and humid there. Satellites show there is almost no ice at either of its poles and there is far less land mass because of it. No signs of habitation just endless multicolored forests filled with indescribable monsters. Which is why they have the “Defoliator.” A combination of short distance irradiation burst and anti-physiogenic nanospray that inhibits the life function.® How they intend to
spread through the hellish jungle by killing it.

    Panel Three

Chief Instillation Officer (CIO) Walsh runs the operation and has plenary powers. Even the military must follow his commands unless overridden by their chain of command off world.
® Monsanto/Raytheon product. Marketed to help remove “useless weeds” on a multi acreage scale. It worked so well in Nigeria & Venezuela.µ
    -
µ Gommer and security chief Bolan had been involved in both those conflicts, Bolan survived Gommer did not.

Friends aren’t allowed to have an occasional disagreement?

A bit bizarre that all of a sudden Oop is agitating for legal rights for Moo’s citizens, coincidentally at the same time the shyster lawyer comes on the scene and starts complaining about the Wizer’s legal rights. Yes, I know Oop and Foozy and Guz have been to the 20th century and know about stuff like that, but this is coming out of the blue, or I should say, out of Carole’s imagination. Since Guz is the king, I would think any legal rights would be decreed by Guz, since there is no legislature or any other governing body.

Why the excitement about Tuesday? Is something finally going to happen?

They are stating that Monday’s strip will be a repeat of the last 3 panels of today’s. Sunday’s are mostly a re-run for the papers that only carry the Sunday strip.

Because Guz and Oop are the BEST of FRIENDS … and just like ANY good friends, they lock horns once in a while

Way back (as in 50 years back,) was Alley the king at one point? Seems like I remember something about him losing the crown in a stream or river, and Guz claiming the kingship because he came up with the crown after a scuffle.

Be careful of what you ask for. You might actually get it.
