There is nor “Mayan prophecy of doom” it was all created by a mistranslation by foreigners. Just like the “Feathered Elephants of Tikal” is a mistake too.

The problem with a story in this strip depending on the Mayan prophecy is that it won’t be finished until two years from now next September.
…
So, does that help defy the prophecy?

Ah, for the good old days … back when our local newspaper’s Sunday comics section included Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, Alley Oop, Red Ryder, Terry and the Pirates, Joe Palooka, Little Orphan Annie, Tarzan and Captain Easy.

Mr. Bender’s art seems even more child-like today.

In 1946 when V. T. Hamlin did a story about Atlantis he included an information box every few days explaining that the story was not a true telling and not based on fact. He did that several times when I believed that the story might be confusing to his readers.

Why do people bother to whine about things like this?
Next thing you know, a certain fanfic writer will start doing an “Alternate Dick Tracy” any day now.
Right now things are REALLY starting to get interesting

Hey, maybe the Bender’s have actually figured out a way to stop the Mayan end of the world scenario, by stretching the story out beyond December 21st. Brilliantly played, Benders. lol

When this story arc began I actually had high hopes for it. But today’s offering is so pathetic, I think I’ve given up all hope that the Benders will ever be able to revive this strip.

So Doc isn’t under arrest? Why was the lab shut down? Time travel might help us learn more about what the Mayans really thought, but how would it make any prediction more likely to come to fruition? The interrogator looks as though he’s thinking “there he goes again with these crazy ideas”.

And “Prince Valium.” The Harrisburg (PA) Patriot-News still carries comics that no one reads like Rex Morgan, MD, Mary Worth and Judge Parker.

That looks like me in the last panel when I read this comic.
Incredulous!
