Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 15 “House of the Worm”(35) 9/4/12

    Panel One

Before we do sleep, lets spend a little time on the veranda out front," Von Clace asks then walks to the front portal door. “What about Tucker?”
“Don’t worry about him, I think the entity needs a recharge.” She said to Lavainge matter-of-factually. Now how would she know? Lavainge thought.

    Panel Two

It was dark alright, not lights nearby so only the waning moon gave any light. Over past the large stand of pines is lake Pemadumcook. There are lights moving around in the sky—-air craft, some of them flying low and even over them!

    Panel Three

Alley swore it was a red headed man, Zandor riding his “LASER ray dragon” Zok, headed to the lake. “Somethings going on, I’ll check it out,” Alley says as he rushed to the truck to get his ebony club then headed out at a fast run to the lake that must be about half a mile away.

    Panel Four

From behind the dark forest flashes of energy, some very bright like gigantic strobe lights going off then thunder rumbled after though there was no chance of rain that night.

If what I’ve heard is correct, the guy who puts the ball through the ring gets the honor of being sacrificed.

So hitting the ring is good for bonus points, but getting the ball through the ring is only technically the point of the game? Perhaps ringers are so uncommon that one actually wins the game regardless of the actual score at the time.

I had also read years ago in National Geographic that if someone managed to get the ball through the hole, the crowd would flee since the winner was entitled to all of the spectator’s possessions.

the Object of the game is to get ball through the ring, but the spectators enjoyed seeing the 2 players do a great game that sometimes lasted hours ………………….. I am betting that
alley somehow gets the ball through the ring in less than 10 seconds, and all the Mayan spectators will be disappointed that it was such a short game

There were several variations on the game, over the years, and in different locations. The ring was a late addition. My guess is that it’s considered virtually impossible to get the ball through the ring — hence the “technically correct”. I’m also going to hazard the guess that Oop will win by doing just that.

Gee, the ball is larger than the hole in the ring.

“all bets are off in regards to grammar and composition” — true only for the pathetically under-educated. The trouble is that “this day and age” of twittering-texting-blogging-etc has provided these dummies with so many new ways of putting their ignorance on display

Suspension of disbelief is one thing, but this strip has seriously taken a turn for the stupid.

Yochi told Alley the same thing that the point of the game was to hit the ball THROUGH the hole in the stone ring! See Aug. 2, 2012 strip. It appears Ichik is not as knowledgeable as Yochi. That does not bode well for Alley. It’s like playing cards at someone’s house and the host tells you the “house rules”, which differ from “book” rules. In this case, Yochi is the host. Even if Alley may win the game “technically”, Yochi will no doubt pull out a house rule that will cause Alley to lose.

susanwobb for president ! In order to get any “accurate” xfer of data or ideas, we must be able to use every tool of language. Syntax, spelling, punctuation are all we have when writing… sound is a bonus when we speak. John Hospers asserts that communiction is really not theoretically possible, but, we must try by using everything we have in verbal tools.

oops…. the word is ‘communication’, noting that MY spelling was overlooked despite my whine.
