Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 14 “Dark Trail of Doom”(26) 7/7/12
Panel One
On the other side of the world in a desolate field under angry dark hanging clouds two flashes then twin peals of thunder and the living-dead mammoth and the new blue cargo truck appear in that field.
Panel Two
Dr. Dark’s VTOL is there as are several military style vehicles in old blood colored dark red paint holding vampires and their thralls waiting to escort it in convoy to the assembly site.
Panel Three
Through the gray dead weed stalks they can see the dark tower in the distance, looming large over the landscape. It is festooned and surrounded with heavy lift cranes and other devices to aid in lifting the final part once it is finished being fitted on the ground. Once that is done the vampires will start their count down to making their “Operation Blood Orchid” complete in twenty four hours time.
Larry, Night-Gaunt, and Fenrisulfr — Here are some interesting “Writing Tips” from Kurt Vonnegut: ( more details at http://www.goodnet.org/articles/358) . 1. Use a time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel that the time was wasted. 2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for. 3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water. 4. Every sentence must do one of two things – reveal character or advance the action. 5. Start as close to the end as possible. 6. Be a sadist. 7. Write to please just one person. 8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible.
The box on the ground that was there when Yochi showed up in Moo appears to be the camera that Wonmug originally used when his time travel experiments began. He originally sent a movie camera back in time and would film what it saw so Wonmug could view what it saw when he brought it back. One day, Oop came across it and was examining it when Wonmug brought it back, and since Oop was right there with it, Oop showed up in the transporter. That was the beginning of the Wonmug/Oop time travel adventures.
Ooola mentions that this is the area that Alley comes to to do the time travel stuff, exactly where Yochi materialized.
People have been saying the writing has improved. I say that is nothing but wishful thinking. I am sure in 1 – 2 weeks people will be back bashing Carole. Already they are finding fault with the art. The writing, just like the art, cannot be judged in 6 panels. Rest assured, this will turn into a stinker and more complaints will fall.
To even see what looked like a little improvement [where none at all was expected] gives us hope. Sometimes hope is nothing more than wishful thinking. I’m just going to try to be objective. And depending on what Le Benders offer us, they’ll either be getting a present in their daily stocking—or a BIGLUMP OF COAL!
Yesterday, I said they were going to see Wizer, but now I see it was Dr Wonmug. I can’t see the good doctor making that kind of mistake, video-ing the Mayan timeline and not bring it to his ‘now-time’ to view. Is the time machine on auto? Gotta glitch?
Volcanos in yesterdays’ strip, none today.
So will Ooola go back to Moo and Yochi follow her? Will we have 2 stories going on, Alley in present day and Ooola and Yochi in Moo?
NightGaunt; I really like your version. It’s hard to wait for the next installment! I’d have loved to see our team catch the tail end of the ‘transporter beam’ and get dropped just out of sight while the bad guys trundle to the castle.
Larry: ok, we got ‘em in the ’slave cage’ and Sheldon is exhilerated. Let them make him be the first one of them doing the slave duty and see if he gets a jolt of reality! No, of course, Alley will do the right thing and make sure he’s protected, right? It may do Sheldon good to get a bruise or 2. What’s Wizer up to?

The artwork seems to have deteriorated to Bender level today. No background, Ooola has almost no face, and she’s way overweight.
@Wootitoot – Thank you. You are quite correct about the movie camera. It appears that Yochi has somehow crossed paths with Wonmug’s experiments.
