Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 14 “Dark Trail of Doom”(23) 7/4/12

In the small town of Jasperton, Nebraska- Dr. Dark needs the last piece for his defense weapon for the Vampire Nation he is aiding to take over significant land in Europe. Using a resurrected mammoth as a massive shock troop smashed its way in pass a combined poliec, state trooper, SWAT and FBI cordon of the Bendix Semiconductor manufacturing plant that contians the one-of-a-kind prototype. The Sunshine task force just aborted a landing to get their C-17-D cargo plane to fly over the area and for Alley Oop, Oscar Boom, Lt. Chet Gilbraithe, Dexter and Lavaigne don paraglider gear and are going to be helped by experienced Special Forces troopers. The landing by parasail is going to be tricky enough over buildings for experienced jumpers. Dr. Dark’s men led by the resurrected martial arts master Iron Palm with a group of humans and dinosaurs going to retrieve the delicate an precious part. A huge reanimated mammoth is guarding the way in and out while they work quickly to get out of there before reinforcements arrive.

    Panel One

“Come on,come on time is wasting and we are almost out of it,” Iron Palm said in a heavily accented English. The Velociraptors echoed his urgency with gaulping sounds which in their language means “to come here fast!” It sounds scary enough coming out of their saw-tooth edged mouths. That and the tail swishing in the air helps too.The others managed to move a little faster.

    Panel Two

The nearby Drone Base is reluctant to send an armed “Reaper” killer drone to aid them. Chet has been negotiating between his boss Admiral M.M.Morrison, and the base commander. He already told both of them it is time sensetive as it is.

    Panel Three

In the mean time the sharp shooters on the buildings are carefully taking shots at the men and dinosaurs but it is hard even for them to hit their targets. Not much of them can be seen. Others who are out of position have been making their way to other more advantageous perches to get in on the action with a full compliment of 50 caliber shells.

    Panel Four

From red to green the light changes inside the the hold of their C-17-D named “Thor’s Hammer” and the “Sunshine” team has jumped. Alley is last and Oscar is first by the others in cluding the reluctant two. Good thing there is a trooper each carrying Lavaigne and Dexter. Oscar and Alley did so on their own. And away they went!

So Doc leaves time travel portals in different places and time that can grab unwitting random people?

I don’t think this has anything to do with Doc Wonmug’s time machine. He never used a time machine shaped like an Mesoamerican altar. I think this is the work of some other, unknown scientist.

“Well they did have curved beak-like mouths.”

    You’re right about that.

“And something else about that Green Hornet episode and Dr. Mabuse and Mabus, Mabus’ golden girl who shot the electric rays seemed to be under some kind of spell. I noticed in the original run and when I got to see it again. So maybe one of the writers was able to put that in to echo the original Mabuse stories. And detonation of an H-bomb “because I have one..” kind of logic is terrifying.”

Right again. Vama did seem to be hypnotized. Possibly it was how she had been schooled to act for Mabus’ alien deception but I think she was a bit more spaced out [no pun intended, but what the hell] than that.

And Mabus’ logic is like that of the President of the City Council [or whatever exactly he was] in The Stepford Wives. They were making perfect robot copies of their wives, that behaved exactly “as a wife should behave” and killing the real women. “Why? Because we can.” Truly horrifying.

At one point the bad doctor says he wants the warhead so he can detonate it. Killing others means nothing to him. I wish I had access to the script it might tell us if more information was there on him and if certain things are explained. No mention of why Vama acted like a sleep walker etc. (But then any tv show or movie always has more done than the audience gets to see.

Laborious translations may work in a novel but not in a comic strip or a tv show. A question of brevity.

Ah, but that’s a weird side-effect of Dr. Wonmug’s Time Machine. It seems to translate languages. There’s a place in Hamlin’s strips where he gives something of an almost rational explanation for this, but I couldn’t find it [dang!]
