I don’t know how that is in other countries, but here in Holland most people nowadays ask for envelopes with cash when getting married. I never like that. I want to buy the couple a REAL gift, something that will remind them of their wedding day (and my presence ;-)

The ad said: SEND ONE DOLLAR AND I’LL TELL YOU HOW I MADE MY MILLIONS.
    .
Out of curiosity, he sent his dollar.
    .
The reply came back: I made my millions by running that ad.
    .
Looking back, the reply card cost five cents or so. Still, that would have taken over a million replies to over a million suckers.

Same in US and Spain. I agree with you though and refuse to give cash. We just gave my husband’s sister a digital camera so I’m sure she’s just as happy. Sure, it will be obsolete after a while (I’ve had mine 10 years), but I think she will remember us when she looks at the nice photos that it took (compared to the photos she took from her phone previously).

Most people return their gifts to the source store for the cash. Many wedding gifts are NEVER used. I would rather receive the cash than a gift that the GIFT-GIVER picked out because THEY liked it. You are being selfish. give the couple something that they can actually use….CASH!
