Sigh… here in the Netherlands we have had only one season for the past few months: autumn. Today is another rainy day with temperatures well below the average. I kinda feel like Agnes.

Agnes apparently forgot to be comforted at the official season change …
the summer solstice was just a week ago.

You need to watch for these things.

I love rainy days and thick blankets and unplugged telephones…

Then just lean back on the beanbag and relax Agnes. It may not be the most comforting thing. But it’s a good second.

Till then, you’ll have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

methinks the desired season change is away from a hot summer, although without the associated return to the principal’s office and school, probably in that order

Autumn is my favorite season of the year. So short.

DavidHG — I thought she was waxing philosophical, rather than expressing dismay….

Soothed by life’s veracities and inevitabilities…
finding solace in the notion that all things change and pass,

…and knowing, therefrom, that neither life’s ups nor its downs are intransient.

The comfort lies in knowing that summer sun, winter snow, Grandma’s moods and the principal’s office are all but part of a cycle, each to be borne in its season, and in turn, from each to be released.

Philosophy lies ever heavy upon Agnes’ willing head.

and sometimes a wistful sigh is just that …. no poetic waxing…. just a feeling …. of … I’m bored already of summer! Where is the noise! the fireworks! the sacrifice of burnt marshmallows! where is the pool that is not public and the tree swing that is mere inches from the water ….. sigh. :)

I was going to comment in the same vein as you, but ….. you were much more poetic and philosophical than I.
    .
Besides…. someone has to go looking for that fork in the road… and darn it! The tines were pointing up! ouch! ;)

Doubtless that was the very point upon which she meditated.

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

    (Golde)
    I don’t remember growing older
    When did they?

    (Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?

    (Golde)
    Wasn’t it yesterday
    When they were small?

    (Men)
    Sunrise, sunset
    Sunrise, sunset
    Swiftly flow the days
    Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
    Blossoming even as we gaze

    (Women)
    Sunrise, sunset
    Sunrise, sunset
    Swiftly fly the years
    One season following another
    Laden with happiness and tears

    (Tevye)
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?

    (Golde)
Now they must learn from one another
    Day by day

    (Perchik)
    They look so natural together

    (Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be

    (Perchik & Hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

    (All)
    Sunrise, sunset
    Sunrise, sunset
    Swiftly fly the years
    One season following another
    Laden with happiness and tears
