Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

Is it me … or does this seem like a sort of role reversal … Trout uttering the inexplicable nonsense, with Agnes kibbitzing.

@Bruno Zeigerts: yes, I had exactly the same thought.

Maybe this stunt is too low-brow for the strangely intellectual Agnes to have dreamed up.
Her grandmother, though fallen on hard times (perhaps partly driven there by her wild daughter, and then by raising her daughter) is obviously educated and somewhat proper.
OTOH Trout cheerfully watches her alcoholic mother’s drunken “suitors” get a laugh by smashing beer cans on their foreheads.
She’s very down-to-earth, and finds Agnes’ airier pursuits baffling… but she survives her otherwise grim surroundings by being nonchalant and non-judgmental.
Agnes considers herself “above” Trout … she makes that clear…
but being outcasts, they’re intensely loyal to each other because they’re both grateful for acceptance.

You needed to make sure that picture was way smaller, like within the box. You can see it is oversized by a great deal. I was tempted to flag it but I thought I would tell you first.

Full Face eating is an art, best left to the professionals. Though one does not get to be a Full Face Professional without practise. ….. Just remember one small, minor detail Trout. You breathe when the face is up, out of the bowl! Not when you’re full face in the bowl. Jello sucks when its in the nose.
