Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

Which are the right boys, I’m sure – at least for Agnes.

You certainly attract stares, Agnes.

After puberty … Agnes might not feel that way.

I wish I could go back to the days when my daughter didn’t attract boys. :-\

The only boy attracted to Agnes is Bob, Son of the Mole (from “Dick Tracy”).
rshive said, 3 months ago
Yeah, Bob is not exactly going to steal eye time from whoever young girls’ celebrity heartthrob is at the moment. Nor does Agnes exactly treat him well. But who knows about the future? Both of them may be cast characters from “Ugly Duckling” stories. Not the first time that something like that will have happened.
-———————Trout is a little more interesting. She and Agnes both may want to learn kung fu so that they can protect each other.

It seems that Agnes is still at that stage where boys are more of a bother than an interest.

Well, her grandma must have been halfway attractive at one time….

As I passed through adolescence, it never failed to amaze me that the homely girls of junior high turned out to be the hottest girls in high school and beyond.

Attract boys? Agnes is a train wreck, the 11th car in an eight car pile up, the cat in the well, the yicky worms, and the what on earth did the cat just drag in? Dragged in what the dog had chased out. OH. YES. You will attract the boys.

close call, Agnes, but you’re relatively safe
