Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

As mothers often say, ‘Keep making that face .. .and it’ll freeze that way!’

I’ve had days just like that.

Assuming your face unfreezes before morning, it’s good exercise for the facial muscles.

Agnes is always a little handicapped by gags about her facial expressions, since she has none. I mean, what mouth? What smile?

Lots of comics have “shadow” panels now and then just for variety. My own webcomic does.

A shadow panel means your perspective has moved to a point farther away, normal in many comics

I understand that, but there’s no color in the grass or sky, either.

Agnes has returned to her set point.

Happiness has little to do with circumstances and much to do with attitude.

Lack of color or detail last panel indicates distance, methinks

Lack of color may mean more than just being easier to see them but maybe the world has gone Manichean. Black and white.

That is a ritzy neighbourhood. The other trailer has a flat roof and squared sides indicating its a “manufactured home” It has its own cement pad! …. the girls’ expressions must soon be drooling. (no envy – they are above that… just the drooling)
