Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

Don’t understand why Trout’s so critical. Any toe would sing, though maybe off key. Free from the tyranny of having to wiggle on command!

I’m sure toes don’t sing only because they are inside shoes without wings!

If they could fire rockets … would they be ‘missile toes?"
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Reminds me of an episode of COURAGE, THE COWARDLY DOG featuring a gang leader (the big toe) and his minions (the other toes on the disembodied foot).
BTW, Agnes REALLY needs new friends!!

I think it’s a lovely song. You’re right, Susan, Agnes needs a new friend.

Apparently Trout never watched Animaniacs. There was a talking big toe on there. I’m sure Agnes could teach it to sing.

@Dani Rice
The trouble is that she spurns the one other kid who tries to be her friend.

Wingtips should help then, although not a fashion statement for young girls.
.
But then, this is Agnes.

Trout has no poetry in her soul.

@Night-Gaunt49
But to be fair I’m sure Poetry has no Trout in its soul either.

Actually, if toes COULD fly, there’s no reason not to assume they could carry the rest of the body along as well.

What if she wore RedWing shoes, or even Nike’s, named after the winged goddess of victory?

Toes would have to get rid of their nails before they could fly.
