Fallout 3 does allow you to solve problems with discussion rather than violence.
Unfortunately, most of the enemies in the game don’t give you a chance to speak.
(Giant mutant scorpions don’t tend to be very sympathetic listeners.)

About half our culture doesn’t seem to understand that when there is a dispute, both sides have to have both something to lose and to gain, in order to get them to the table to negotiate, i.e., there has to be something to negotiate. Both sides have to be willing to negotiate in good faith, too. What burns me up are so many people like carter that seem to think that just talking is good enough when dealing with dishonest nations.
Talk does not make reality, nor is it as good as doing something, despite so many of the 1960s group pushing it.

As human beings, we always assume that other people should be the same as we are. It doesn’t work that way. Let’s be as we would be, but tolerate those who disagree. Nobody need be killed.

Akin to “Nice City” in a recent “Foxtrot” rerun arc.
