And a traditional sarcastic wife…

Welcome to the club Adam.

This is the “old” Laura, before they toned down her sarcasm a few years ago. Probably did a focus group (or read the GoComics comments) and learned that most people considered her to be a bit of a b****. She’s been a lot nicer to Adam since then. At least that’s my take on the strip. I’m curious if anyone else noticed Laura’s evolution.

In my family sarcasm is practically a second language. We bust each other’s chops but it’s always tongue-in-cheek and never meant to be taken seriously. I always find it surprising how serious people get when they see sarcastic banter in a comic strip. I think the banter is great, but to each their own.

So, what is it he does?

He makes us smile, and sometimes laugh. And sometimes cringe. He lives a full life, though. :)

Where I come from, sarcasm is rude and disrespectful. It’s basically mockery or derision, and meant to be derogatory.
However, I would admit that adults who highly respect each other can be light-hearted and utter sarcasm on occasion.
But, in this day and age, women/wives are well known in making biting, scornful comments to the menfolk, with obvious intent.

It looks like she may have hit on a sensitive spot for him. She may make more money than he does and a lot of men can’t handle that, they think it’s a threat to their manhood.

Traditional “income” is overrated.

Adam seems to be the American version of Andy Capp.
Except that Adam is addicted to coffee, not booze, and he doesn’t sponge off his wife (I hope).

Doesn’t Adam write some kind of blog ? I think he gives advice to men that work from home and take care of the kids. Nothing wrong with role reversile and is getting quite common.

When you get a staight line like Adam gave, it’s hard to resist making a comment like the one Laura gave.

My wife just got a promotion and a major raise at work. She now makes more than me, so now I have a tough decision to make. Should I allow it to threaten my manhood, and perhaps ultimately my marriage, or just roll with it. After 25 years of marriage, I’ve finally decided, She’s a keeper. (meant fully tongue in cheek, of course).

I’m with you on the whole sarcasm thing. If there is mutual respect for family members, I see nothing wrong with it; the major thing is the intent behind the comment.
