I just hope that the principal is the sort who can take a firm stand against those bullies.
Even to the point of expelling them!

Unfortunately, for a lot of bullies being thrown out of school would be a dream come true.

That isn’t unfortunate for students who want to learn.

@ Brian Basset and Rob Harrell.

I am not the world’s best grammarian by a long shot, but I don’t believe you need the possessive “principal’s.” (I don’t think the principal owns a “we.”)
I believe the correct way of expressing that statement is: “To the principal we go.” or “To the principal’s office we go.”
You’re professionals, don’t contribute to bad grammar.

Zzzzzzz
The “office” after “principal’s” is assumed like “butcher’s” shop or “dry cleaners’” business.
Don’t lecture on grammar when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Oooooh, bitch fight … this could get interesting.

information is right. “Office” is assumed here. This isn’t bad grammar, and frankly it’s how some people would actually say something like this. This is why people don’t like grammar nazis. They cause unneeded headache.

Agreed. It’s common in casual conversation. “I went to the doctor’s.” “I spent the weekend at my mother’s.” “I’ll meet you at Friendly’s.” The words “office,” “house,” and “restaurant” are implied. When I was in grade school, teachers often threatened to send unruly students to “the principal’s.”

You’d “think” wrong.

And I don’t have a problem with someone attempting to ask a question about grammar or to wonder if something is correct. My problem is where he goes so far to lecture the cartoonist on his “professionalism.” Take a look in the mirror @alexikakos before you start questioning other folks.

Agreed. Honestly that’s what I think pushed my buttons. If he had left out that last sentence, it wouldn’t have sounded nearly as rude.

You said right that you are not the world’s best grammarian. Sorry if it seems you are being piled on, but those who point out that the noun can be understood rather than stated are correct. For the record, I had excellent grades in English class and have worked many years in the publishing industry, so I know whereof I speak.

Isn’t that refreshing after all the political rants inserted in every comic on the site?
