In a real store, you can pick up the book and glance through it to see if it is what you want.

Hear, hear, a man after my heart. I too like to feel the heft of a book.

Remember how reading the comics in a real paper felt? We’re all here for the convenience but the paper was better.
.
@Harryfan Did you ever read Friday by Heinlein and how they had terminals and some real books. One of my favourites.

I’m here because my paper doesn’t carry this strip.

I love walking around the classic non-chain mom &l pop bookstores where you can ask questions and people know the answers. I was once at a chain store similar to Buns and Noodles and told someone I was looking for a certain book by Maya Angelou. The apathetic clerk asked me "oh isn’t HE one of the chefs on the Foot Network?
I was dumbfounded!

With that attitude, they are doomed for sure.

Our last non-chain book store went away a couple of years ago; they couldn’t compete with the big boxes and innerwebs. They didn’t often have what I wanted, but they could order to without any trouble at all. And they carried Charles de Lint’s books!

If being “kind” and “non-snarky” sells books, then Laura got off to a bad start yesterday.

I think a lot of us are here because there are more than a hundred comic strips here, whereas the local paper carries, I think, 12. Also, you have to admit, it’s kind of fun to comment on them.

As with radio, which they felt sure TV would kill, there will always be at least a niche for paper books. They do have a certain je ne sais quoi.

I have to admit that I rarely go into a bookstore. I go to the library or check the internet when I’m buying to save money.

I prefer a bookstore that has a resident cat.

And if the book is what you want, you can take it home right away instead of waiting a week or paying for expedited shipping.

Me too. Not only this strip, but many others.
