    @Alexikakos
    Would you rather ask for the capital of America and have them answer U?

    Perhaps to highlight the fact that much information is lost during the long summer breaks, and while some kids put that time to good use, most spend much of it in unthinking idleness.

    First week back, the teacher is happy they’re even paying enough attention to answer a question

    Let’s see:
    A) They’re commenting on the students and their memories/paying attention,
    B) They’re commenting on unmotivated teachers who will accept any answer and don’t care, or
    C) This particular strip may not have you ROFLing, but it is part of a story. Hopefully, the punchlines will improve as the story progresses. Much like some sequels and prequels in movies: some are not as good as other parts, but taken together as a whole make a wonderful story.

    Somewhat funny and a sad commentary on the educational system. U.S. students are now 27th in the world in math and way too many of them believe spelling is unimportant. Many college students cannot find the city they are in on a map and quite a few teenagers cannot find their way around without the GPS on their smartphones. At this rate, Americans will not be fit to do any technical jobs in 30 years. You want fries with that?

    Unthinking idleness?! In MY summers as a youth, I ran around, got a tan, swam, biked, hiked, learned about nature, water, sun, ice cream melting point … and ONLY on Saturday was I idle for a few hours, watching Tom & Jerry, The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show, and Dukes of Hazard.
