One of my fondest memories as a child was jumping into big piles of autumn leaves that had been raked to the curb.
And in those days, people were alowed to burn leaves. I relished the crackling flames and, yes, the burning odor.
    Ah, autumn!

All that is needed for any job is the proper motivation.

it wasn’t autumn, but every year in our city we piled our Christmas trees in a huge empty lot near one of the local schools and on a specific night, the fire dept would light them up and we’d sing and drink hot chocolate, etc. It was fun. and this was in the 1980’s… Now we can’t because of the environment…. sigh.

It must rain here too much or something, cause “leaf piles” were always “sludgy slug heaps”, and not something I felt and urge to leap into.

Here in New Mexico, you can still burn leaves, you need to wait for a burn day in places like Albuquerque, but it is still legal.
