TV today has a SERIOUS lack of writing, directing, and–especially–acting talent.
That’s probably why the networks are crammed with all those accursed “reality” shows.
To see quality shows, one should tune in to Hallmark or TVLand, or stock up on DVD’s of classic TV.

I agree with you Susan. I never watch TV, I just buy dvd’s of my favourite shows. Many of them are classics.

It’s been nearly 4 years since I watched network TV.
Even the cable channels failed to hold my attention over most of the last year.
A few months ago I realized that I was watching so little TV that my cost per hour was more than I make per hour.
Shut the cable off and don’t miss it a bit.

We’ve been unhooked from TV for over 10 years.

TV is sad. Sex is prevalent so that stupid people will watch. And we wonder why the conditions are such as they are. Of course, in the day, a program could actually conclude in half an hour or an hour and have concluded without being continued.

It’s gotten pretty pitiful, I agree. I have to admit I did enjoy Knight Rider, though. Not as good as the original, but it was definitely growing on me. We don’t watch much TV, so when there IS a show I enjoy, I pretty much expect it to not last…

I like NCIS and watch mostly PBS, Discovery and History channels, when I do watch TV. I’m somewhat into anime and watch quite a bit of that. I love the Ghibli Studio DVDs.

The presence or absence of sexual themes is no more an indication of a show’s quality than the presence or absence of a family dog.

The best shows, comedy and dramas, are those which tell truths about our lives. Humans are sexual beings. Romantic and/or sexual relationships provide endless possibilities for interesting, touching, revealing, stimulating (in many senses), and often VERY FUNNY observations. I have no desire for my viewing to be “sanitized for my protection”, although I would agree that certain shows are best put on at later hours.

I do watch TV - way too much. To me, there are simple reasons why GOOD shows fail:
Scheduling conflicts: the different networks put their best shows up against the best shows on other networks. Even with Tivo, DVR, VCR, etc when there are 3 or 4 shows on different networks in the same timeslot, something has to give.
Scheduling juggling: the networks decide that a show is not doing as well as expected in its chosen timeslot so they move it - often with virtually no notice - literally losing their viewers. And WHY would you show a pilot episode on Tuesday for a show you’re going to run in a Friday timeslot? Newsflash, network execs, we can’t watch it if we can’t find it!
Scheduling TV seasons: no two stations use the same “season” - start dates, length of season, number of episodes.

BTW: I think it’s crazy to complain about “too much sex on TV” and say nary a word about the violence. However, there is a simple solution which it appears many here have discovered - if you don’t like it, change the channel or turn it off!

The only drama show is the CBS one, “NUMB3RS,” which is on Friday nights.

Most of the TV shows which I watch are on the cable channels.

“Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader” has been moved to the CMT cable channel. When it’s on, I will watch it and tape the Broadcast channel shows which I generally watch during the 7 PM Central Time period.

Soon Sunday Mornings, I get the TV World that’s in the local newspaper and then I go to tvguide.com and see what’s on certain TV shows during the week. I use colored markers and mark the newspaper guide for which shows I want to watch when they are on and which ones I want to record to watch later.

I like the comedies on CBS on Monday Wednesday nights.

Many of the regular network comedy shows have people saying rather vulgar words that children shouldn’t even be hearing. Of course, some of the foul-mouth folks who post comments here don’t even recognize them as vulgar words.

Like the 1st Knight Rider, it was a lame show
