Hash tag, indeed. How curious this common sign has had many uses. My first use, in a technology sense, was on the telephone keypad to push the pound/hash tag symbol to switch from one line to the second line on my home phone in the 70’s. But this use is better for a laugh.

Right you are—and right you’d be if you’d said comment sign, cross, hex, octothorp, octathorp, octatherp, sharp, space, square, crosshatch, (garden) fence, mesh, flash, grid, pig-pen, tictactoe, scratch (mark), (garden) gate, hak, oof, rake, sink, corridor, crunch, punch mark! And hash, of course. A symbol for nearly all occasions, it seems!
