The Academia Waltz was Berke Breathed's first cartoon, published daily from 1978 to 1979 in The Daily Texan at The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a student. The strip focused primarily on college life, although it sometimes made references to big news stories of the time (such as the incident at Three Mile Island in 1979).

Not many old enough to remember Three Mile Island, now we’ve seen Chernobyl and Fukushima and TMI seems rather tame in comparison. Nuclear power in the hands of imperfect humans is a recipe for disaster.

Worse yet it was done on the (secret) notion that the nuclear material refineries can be easily tasked with making fissionable weapons grade for bombs.
