The Academia Waltz was Berke Breathed's first cartoon, published daily from 1978 to 1979 in The Daily Texan at The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a student. The strip focused primarily on college life, although it sometimes made references to big news stories of the time (such as the incident at Three Mile Island in 1979).

This cartoon wasn’t meant to be so funny, neither was the Three Mile Island incident. An intelligent person would understand the warning here.

I know I can be anal at times, but it’s bugs me that he has the pigeons ‘chirping’. Pigeons ‘coo’ or ‘squeak’(really young), but I have never heard my pigeons ‘chirp’.
As for three mile island, I didn’t even realize it had been reopened after it’s last meltdown. Maybe now people will realize that nuclear isn’t an ‘environmentally friendly choice’.

There is a reason why no self respecting Insurance company will never insure any nuclear plants————-ever. Only the govt will do so.
