I can’t imagine what Toyota could have done that would be considered evil. During the War, all they did was try to keep up with the demand for trucks. Mitsubishi was a lot to answer for, on the other hand.

…that reminds me, there’s a new Japanese animated film coming out (“Kaze Tachinu”) that’s based on an engineer who helped design the Zero. Curious choice of subject for a children’s filmmaker!

I read a book on the Zero last fall. The planes were made in the Misubishi factory, in sub assemblies, and were hauled BY OXCART to a nearby airfield, for the final assembly, and delivery to the Nihon Kaigun. ( Imperial Japanese Navy ). The Type O Navy Fighter was an amazing plane, and it took the F6F to stop it in it’s tracks. Look at the size of a Hellcat, and the ability of a F6F to stay with a Zero for the first 80 degrees of a turn is astonishing. 80 degrees of the turn was generally all you needed to get the six Fifties to bear, and that was more than enough firepower to kill the Zero. But right up to the end of the War, you could not take a Zero for granted.
